Khalsa Roots run workshops for children and adults on the first Saturday each month from 3pm to 5.30pm.

We are volunteers who work with the support of SGSSH and parents to involve children in learning about our Sikh Roots with a practical or creative session, followed by Sakhi/Story time and free play. We then have langar which often includes a treat made by the children!

We encourage you and your children to participate fully and have opportunities to develop new skills such as presenting, I.T. pottery design, needle work, painting, planting and other fun activities. We help to gain confidence and work together with others, as well as mix with other Sikh children outside of school. Our workshops have also included cooking lessons, yoga, Sikh musical instruments and participating in Eco Sikh Day annually. In the past we have organised days out to the Theatre, Circus, Wicksteed Park and Horse-riding. The children are encouraged to promote their school achievements and tell us about what interests them so we can provide an activity in future workshops and fun days out.

If you have younger children you are more than welcome to stay with them. Older youth (11+) are welcome to join in, bring their ideas and work with the younger children to bridge the gap and pass on their it sports related, story-telling, help with display work or discussion groups to get them thinking and building confidence. We can also help you gain ‘volunteer points’ for your Duke of Edinburgh Award for secondary school.

All our regular volunteers have a fully enhanced disclosure DBS check (previously known as CRB).

Welcome back!! It's 2015 and we have lots of ideas for this year. With your support and team-work we can create fun activities, learn about our Sikh roots and organise days out, to encourage our children to develop new skills, gain confidence outside of school and work together with others.
